YouTube Platform

Tati Westbrook, a YouTube beauty influencer, exposed James Charles.  For those of you who do not know James Charles, he is a beauty influencer that has changed the image for men in makeup.  He appeared on Ellen a few years ago and was the face of Covergirl Cosmetics.  Flash-forward a few years- James HAD over 16 million followers on YouTube, has his own apparel line, and has a collaboration with Morphe Cosmetics.

Tati uploaded a video this past Friday that talked about how money has pretty much changed James.  She discussed comments he made to straight men and tried to seduce them, and when Tati told James that these men were straight, he replied "Doesn't matter, I'm famous."  There was a lot more that she brought up about James, but the end result of all of this information surfacing is that James has had a lot of backlash.  He has lost almost 3 million followers on YouTube in a matter of 4 days and is now labeled as a predator.

The reason for my post is I was wondering if you think this scenario is a form of cyberbullying?  Personally, after watching Tati's video (which was 45 minutes) I think she was addressing the bully.  I think James' behavior is bully like, especially with his comment about being famous.  Do you think it is wrong to address someones behavior through YouTube or any social media platform or is this going to be the new norm?

  1. I actually followed this entire scandal on social media. To begin, I do not agree with James Charles or his actions so I am not excusing him from anything. However, it was wrong for Tati to call him out on Youtube. Youtube and other social media platforms have opened a can of worms. These famous bloggers are going to have to keep a lot of their private lives to themselves because bloggers are tending to call each other out on Youtube.
